Making Wellness a Priority
During September we celebrate Self Care Awareness at The Spa at the Glen, with a goal to encourage you make time for self care every day.
Each week we will offer ideas and inspiration to help you prioritize your health and being good to yourself! The kindness we show towards ourselves will manifest into a kinder world for us and those we care for.
Here are some ideas to get you started, from spending a few minutes using a conscious breath technique to positive daily mantras, to dedicated me time and healing treatments. Elevate your self care, improve your state of mind and physical health.
Take Five Minutes to Breathe.
You can do this anywhere. Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Breathe in for four counts, hold the breath for four counts, and exhale for four counts. Repeat this exercise for up to five minutes. Notice how you feel once you’re finished. You’ll likely feel calmer, focused, and energized. Deep breathing techniques have been part of healing practices for thousands of years, and researchers have found that breathing exercises can decrease stress and improve mood. Deep breathing also helps to send oxygen throughout your body for improved physical well-being.
Create a Positive Mantra.
Many of us have negative internal speech we say to ourselves when things go wrong. Combat this by working to treat yourself with the same kindness you would others. Start by making a list of loving, positive things about yourself. Then several times a day, repeat them to yourself. Make a habit to do this at regular intervals through the day, or you can set reminders on your phone. Practicing positive speak with yourself will steer you towards more loving self-talk when things go wrong.
Have a Weekly Date with Yourself.
Setting aside time for yourself is important. Take a few hours or day, and dedicate it to you. When we’re constantly meeting others’ needs, exhaustion can set in. Make some time each week to do exactly what you want to do. Maybe it’s taking a warm bath, going for a walk, catching up with friends, or getting a manicure—whatever the activity and your resources, the focus needs to be on doing something that you enjoy and makes you feel good.
